I followed the manufacturer's break-in recommends in my VN800B, and at 40K mi - zero problems, zero oil consumption. Didn't get to break-in my Nomad but hope the PO followed the recipe, it is not that difficult. Also agree with varying the speed over the range up to the limit during that time.

welcome from New Hampshire......Bought my 05 new....noisy from day one. Great bike. Wife and I and a full load can cruise at 70 all day...comfortably...to me this is were the mad excels.
Seats could use a little softening.

Welcome fisherdude from another Texas resident.

I also recently got a new 08. Put it on the road early February. I took it easy the first 100 miles. Only busted 100 three times and found the rev-limiter two or thee times in first and second. Did a lot of speed variations and minimal steady speeds.

Changed oil and filter at 400 miles. Drained it from the oil screen plug on the left side just behind the kickstand. Found a little debris and some fuzzy stuff like gasket shaving and some goo. Oil was clear.

I still didn't do any steady speed long runs until it go around 800 miles then I rode it like I always ride.

It rolled over to 1600 miles today the oil in the sight glass is just where it was when I changed it at 400 miles last month.

So far I'm happy. If it holds up like my 2000 1500 FI Nomad, which has 117000 miles on it, I will really be pleased.

Your gonna enjoy the Hill Country roads just west of Austin.

Welcome from Southern California...The noise your hearing is most likely the ICS (idle control solenoids clicking), not to worry. Their built like tanks!

I'm new to the forum also, on my 04 nomad the first time the fan came on I pulled over to see what was wrong with the bike the KAW motors seem to make alot of noise. But it's a great bike I don't worry one bit about going anywhere and it not bring me back. Just use good oil and chang it on time, ride that horse she will go. Check out Gadets Nomad page for some good mods and tect tips and also this Forum, You can it alot of info and tips to make the Nomad even better.

Good Day eh! Welcome from Stony Plain, Alberta. The only thing I should warn you about a potential problem with your Nad' is the cramping in your face it will give you from the constant smile you will have on your face looking at it and riding it.
