My HD belt works fine, quiet, and is tough... don't ask how I know. Just know that it is...

The belts have Kevlar in them. From what I've read, the dealer has to use a special tool to even cut them off. I also read about a dealer putting a 1/4" cut on the belt and then running it hard on a bike to demonstrate their durability.

I did all the shaft maintenance myself on my 1600 at the suggested intervals. I think it was every 7500 mi. Anyways, not hard, only about a 2 beer job. I changed the gear oil every time I changed oil. Unnecessary, I know but made it easy to remember & just took a few ounces of gear oil. No problems w/shaft drive & I had about 45K on her when I traded. I really liked the shaft drive & didn't want the belt on my Nomad, BUT, after 6K mi, no complaints w/the belt, yet!
