1600 nomad clutch slipping.

I took my 2005 1600 nomad for a ride this morning and noticed some clutch slipping. I have done a little research and read about replacing clutch spring with oem replacement, replacing spring with mean streak spring, using "judges washers", or replacing clutch with gorilla clutch. What has worked for those of you who have had this problem? I bought the bike in 2007 with 19000 miles on it and it now has 105000 miles on it. I have done nothing to the clutch since I bought it. Thanks for the help.

Gary,

105,000 miles? That's great!! I had the impression these models start having clutch issues around 30,000 miles. And I've read the Mean Streak spring is the way to go.

Replacing the spring will be a much cheaper and easier fix than replace the complete clutch and it will most likely fix the problems you're now experiencing.

I am leaning toward the mean streak spring and "Judges Washers".

Get the Barnett MT-25 spring, it's heavier than the Mean Streak spring.

From what I understand, the Mean Streak Spring is what they used in the later model 1600's, and I have had a clutch go out on me with it. Agree with CJ... if mine goes out again, Barnett would likely be my choice!

The 1500 meanie spring is the heavier one. MaKaw cheaped out on the 1600's and used the same spring.

The part # for the 1500 meanie is 92145-1449 .

I changed to a Barnett MT-25 when my clutch started slipping. I didn't install Judge's washers. The Barnett spring alone worked out fine. Just google Barnett MT-25 and it will lead you in the right direction. I paid less than $25 for mine a couple of years ago.
