Wouldn't a "50 State" bike be one with CA emissions, since CA has the most stringent emissions laws in the country? They just don't offer a non-CA bike.

That's one way of looking at it. Lets just say it's cheaper to make bikes for one emission standard. If they can make one that passes CA regs, then it's good to go anywhere else. Sort of makes sense to me.

The only complaints most beemerphiles seem to have are the lousy seats (who doesn't complain about the seats on any bike) and that it's best to wait 3-5 years after a new model comes out to buy it as there's no use being a beta tester. The underlying engineering is usually the best, but the niggling stuff can be leave one's head shaking...

CA emissions bikes generally are a bit lower in usable power because of all that emissions crap. I'm glad Indiana doesn't have inspections.
