Tire Wear

The rear tire on a '03 Nomad is wearing excesive on the left (drive) side. This side is warn out but the center and left still have life left. Shocks are set and pressurized to match each other.
What would cause this?

Perhaps you make more left turns. Ive had tires wear more on the right side because of the ramps I use getting on and off the highway going to work.

I have only got about 1500 miles on this tire. When I say left side I mean clear over on the edge of the tread. The bike is in the perfect spot on it when it is on the kick stand. The last tire wore out the same way. The last tire was a Metz 880 This one is a dunlop E3. If the side was not wore out the center and right have another 1500 miles of life left in it.

This is a very good article on the left side tire wear problem.

The way the roads are crowned (higher in the center, so water drains to either side) will cause more wear on the left side than the right.

That was my assumption as well Scott,
But according to the article recumbentbob put up a link to, crown plays no role in tire wear. It's a good read.

Well that's what they taught us when I learned how to do front end alignments.

I usually end up with more wear on the left side. If yours seems excessive you may have some type of alignment problem.
