I know this is old topic probably
Has anyone drilled the silencers out of their Vaquero yet? I was thinking about doing it this weekend and can't decide if it will be too loud. I know about using the dowel to drill them out but I am not sure if it is the same as the Nomad. Anyone with some inside Knowledge?

No, it's not the same as the Nomad, and doesn't give much benefit for the trouble it takes. I've had a 1600 and done the mod before.
On 1700's you can't just cut a weld and pull out a baffle like the 1600 Nomads. The 1700 require a hole saw that fits inside the pipe, and loooooong extension to drill out a couple baffle plates inside the muffler body. I lengthened my extension and drilled through the catalytic material too. Still disappointing. If you do drill the plates, don't bother with the cats. IMHO the best bet is to save up for new mufflers. I felt the drilling of the 1700 mufflers just sounded odd. Definitely not what I was going for. -Jay |

I will note it DID free up exhaust flow, and I felt the bike ran a little cooler as a result.

Thank you for the information. I thought there would be more to it then I was seeing. I think I will order slipons when I get some money.

I drilled my baffle plates (stopped before the cats). It sounds a little better, but still not what I'm looking for. I've read about other people drilling the cats out too, but I'm just gonna wait until I can change the mufflers.

Spy bots are working, I start reading this thread about drilling and this pops up beside the reply box.

Does this site block the XXX spy bots? And Why?
