Bike changes update

I ordered the car tire this morning. I decided to go with the 195/60-16. I have moved the air temp sensor up behind my fairing and my Vance and Hines pipes now has 20 inch baffles. The longer baffles gave the bike a very deep and rich tone and took away the harsh high pitched sound. I am going to take it out for a ride in just a little while to burn in the new muffler packing. I will still have to wait until hot weather to see if I am still going to need a fuel processor and an air kit or if this will satisfy me. Moving the air sensor should help with the fuel starvation and the longer baffles should add a little more back pressure on the engine. Only time will tell.

You'll love the c/t!! You went with the same size I'm using. I'll eventually add a fuel processor and adjust the air intake too.

I really enjoy the c/t. As far as I'm concerned, I'll always run a c/t on my bike. :)

Just got back from a ride. I am in love with the longer baffles! I wish I had done this years ago. Running 65mph you could easily have a conversion with a passenger without screaming. Even at highway speeds you still keep the low tone and no high pitch to hurt your ears. Granted one should still be riding with ear plugs but this test ride without them was really enjoyable. Liz and I are planning on going on a Polar Bear ride this Saturday. I am actually looking forward to it.

Glad you are happy with the pipes. One of these days I will have to upgrade my pipes. Maybe when income tax time rolls around.

It's supposed to be mid-50's here. Not sure if that qualifies as a polar bear ride.

I had a set of old V&H that I kept the mufflers off of so I just pulled the baffles out of them. It was just a matter of cutting the baffles and welding them back to gather. I used the fiberglass patch kits from the auto store to rap the baffles and had some aluminum wire to sucure it in place. I actually added 7 inches to the original length. When I welded them together I bent and shaped one end so it would go inside the other just a little so I would have a double thickness to weld to.

I bought my tire off of ebay from Tires-Easy. It is the Achilles Platinum 195/60R-16 and cost $90.70 shipped and will be here January 4th. It is not a 70,000 mile tire but then I plan to trade my bike in another year so high milage was not important to me this time. I just wanted to try one and check out the ride and handliing qualities verses a motorcycle tire.

My rear tire still has several thousand miles left on it so I intend to go ahead and take it off and put it on the shelf. Then when I get ready to trade put it back on so I won't have a problem with the dealer.

Ann and I just got back from a brief (45 min) ride. It was nearly 65 degerees. Wish we could have been out longer, but got a late start due to family over. Who would have thought we would be out on 12/31 in KC?

I moved the air temp sensor last week and got to ride the 31st about 170 miles. The air temp was almost 60 degrees down by Columbia and we where on hilly and curvy back roads. I really had to try to get my bike to ping by letting it get below 45 mph in 5th gear. Under normal operation I did not have one ping. There might be a problem when the temp's get warmer but right now I am happy. My tire will be here tomorrow and I hope to have it installed before we get back into the 50's this Thursday and Friday. With the new tire being a smaller diameter it should also help with any pinging problem.

And make your speedo that much more inaccurate. And use more gas. And wear out the tire faster. Just sayin'.
