Rolling Thunder 2011

Glad you enjoyed it. For the Vets especially it is a very moving ride and everyone should do it at least once. I rode in it when the motorcycles were only 17,000 or so. I haven't done it since, but maybe sometime I will again. Living within 30 miles of DC I know the monuments and periodically take advantage of the proximity to visit them.

If anyone has made this ride and didn’t get all choked up and teary-eyed passing by all those people, young and old, standing by the sides of the road waving the flag and signs saying “Thank you Vets for all you do”...you have no heart.

It was the most awesome thing to see little kids waving, and other vets of many wars, holding out their hands to touch you as you went by. Until you’ve experienced such things, you just don’t understand how it feels. I’ll not miss one as long as I can ride!

I would be happy to organize a group ride for the 25th anniversary next year, however, having never done one before, I would appreciate any help. My idea would be to have several groups from the various regions that want to attend, meet up on the Friday of that weekend. Then organize some rides to some points of interest around D.C. on Saturday, with maybe a big git-together for dinner at some location Saturday night.

Probably the most difficult item, will be locating lodging in the area. Depending on how many folks want to participate, it may require staying in different locations. What do you guys think?

OR...

Maybe the regional leaders can organize their members and everyone could just meet up on Saturday????

Either way, would be great to get a large group of Nomads together (o:
