For very infrequent ice storms here, they put sand on the bridges and overpasses. Why do they salt the roads in the North and sand them futher South?[/quote:0fn1w893]

Why, you will warm up soon enough and your ground temps are above freezing. When you stay well below freezing and have frozen ground, the roads don't thaw out until you get a real nice sunny day.

Up here, they put BRINE on the roads. They put it on the roads 24 hours before it snows/ices. Then splashes on the vehicles and makes a huge mess. That really gets into the cracks and crevices of the vehicles and makes them rust worse.

I thought brine was used to preserve food. Are they trying to preserve the road kill? ???

They have put brine down here as well on the 407, Im still hoping that I may get another day or two of riding in yet. I'll give the bike a good thorough wash when it looks like I am parked for the season. And then wait for spring.

Brine must be an Ontario thing, they just seem to pour the salt to the roads here.
In my mind, brine is salt water so what do they use to distribute it on the roads, water tank trucks?
We are into our second day of heavy rain, so most of the salt will be washed away, but I doubt that it will stay warm enough for a ride once it clears up.

They do apply it with water trucks prior to freezing conditions. Im sure the rain washes it away quickly. They also pour tons of salt here as well. Too bad the province won't replace my truck when it rusts away.

Class action suit. Only problem is the Provence would fight it with your tax dollars, pay out with your tax dollars if they lost, and raise your taxes to cover the costs.

That kind of reminds me of one episode of Seinfeld with George where he had one liners and left meetings on a good note. You know the one where he flopped when he tried to duplicate reaction if he had a second one..............
