Cruise control problem - FIXED!!

It seems the cruise controls don't set as well on the 1500's as they do on the 1600's for some reason. Up to 70 mph mine is pretty good, if I want to set it for 75mph, I have to take the bike up to about 85mph, then it will lock in around 75mph.

When I'm riding, I try to set the cruise control and the cable is not moving. I suppose it's possible the cable could be bound somewhere along its length or whatever actuates the vacuum to pull the cable isn't working? Since I can apply vacuum to the servo and it doesn't move the cable, I am guessing there must be some action internally that causes it to move the cable - a valve or something.

I found that extra servo unit and will look at this again when I've run the gas out of the tank.

It sounding more and more like a defective servo. I guess it was just a coincidence that it quit when you installed the fairing.

Yeah, just bad timing, I guess. I'm really glad I held onto that spare assembly. Should be pretty easy to do, since the hard part was the wiring and the plumbing. I'll let you know what happens.

Cruise control problem - FIXED!!

I went for a ride this morning, about 100 miles to use up the gas in the tank. I came back home and swapped out the servo unit. I also re-engineered the clamp assembly that held the servo cable housing in place near the throttle. Before, it was at the end of the adjustment and there was still slack in the cable. Now it's tighter and more easily adjusted than before.

I just got back from a test ride and the cruise control works great! With no slack in the cable, it engages much quicker than before.

So I guess the problem was "somewhere" in the servo module.

Thats good, lucky you had a spare servo. You should try to take the broken one apart one day and see if you can find the problem with it.

Congrats CJ. But I still think it was due to hot weather. I see you cooled down to 100 today so that must be the reason it works

And yes that was the best I could do!

Hey, Ring, mine does the same thing as yours. Though I think I need to tighten up my linkage a bit. And didn't you talk about putting on the magnetic sensor on yours? How did that worK?

I did install the magnetic speed sensor on the back wheel, it helped but its still not perfect above 75mph. I just accelerate higher than I want to go for a few seconds and then lock it in.

After a few days I'm happy to say the replacement servo module works better than my old one ever did. It engages faster and holds the speed more steadily.

When I get some spare time, I'll pull the original unit apart and see if I can figure out the problem.

I think that may be what is wrong with mine CJ I can set it and it may hold for 20 miles or 2 miles then it will slowly loose speed. I have another servo now all I have to do is get off my lazy but and change it.

Yeah mine was doing that. I found myself constantly fiddling with it, trying to maintain a steady speed. The new one seems much better. I'm doing a 200 mile ride tomorrow and will give it a good test.

Cruise control problem - FIXED!!

I had what I thought was an intermittant problem with my AudioVox cruise. I would be on a ride and it would be working great. Then it wouldn't engage all of a sudden. No matter what it just wouldn't engage at any speed. Then a little later it would start working again. There didn't seem to be any kind of pattern to when it would engage and when it wouldn't. I checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong. This had been going on for a couple of months and I was getting rather frustrated. Then one day I was riding and had just stopped at a red light. A few moments later a pickup pulled up beside me at the light and the driver told me that my brake light was staying on all the time. When the light changed I pulled over into a parking lot and checked, sure enough, the brake light was on. I wiggled the switch on the rear brake pedal and it went off. Put the brake on and let go and the light stayed on. After I got home I cleaned the switch and adjusted it some so that it didn't stick on anymore. The cruise has worked perfectly since then. Obviously, since the brake light circuit disengages the cruise, if the brake light is on the cruise won't engage.

Interesting. I have had the same issue at times. Guess I better check my brake switch.
