OK- I figured that was the case. I didn't want Gene The Machine to think he HAD to use a relay just to operate a cigarette plug- although you could do it that way.
Gene- you thought about the location of your fuse for this power outlet? For example, in the headlight bucket, outside the headlight bucket/in front of the gas tank, tucked down behind the windshield?...... If you're running an accessory fuse block you could run your power outlet wire down to it- keeping all your fuses in a central location. Easter Beaver Company has a nice one called a PC-8. It has four or five connections that are hot all the time, and two more that are switched with a power source of your choice... Cheaper options available, for sure. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Thanks guys for all your help. I haven't started on the project yet, I wanted to check here first and find out the best possible way to do it. And, as usual I am not disappointed. You guys came through again as you always do. I will start on the project in a day or so. Time isn't really a big concern anymore as all I have is time, not much money. Will keep you posted as to how the project goes.
By the way, the GPS is a Garmin.

I wired my running lights using a relay placed in the headlight bucket. The ground is actually terminal 85 on the relay, I think just a typo on the picture as it indicates 86 which is not the ground. Usual convention is to plug the power source white/blue stripe/red ring wire in the headlight bucket to terminal 30 on the relay and connect the + side of running lights to terminal 87 as shown on Gadget's site. :)

I placed mine behind the small plastic cover in front of the gas tank. Using a cheapo black covered receptacle it blends in and looks stock.

I am also wanting to put in a acc. plug, but I don't have any empty wire connections in my headlight bucket. I have a 2003 with a kawasaki light bar. Is ther another option for me? I would mainly use it to power GPS.
Thanks
