Installing Cobra FI200R digital fuel processor

I received my Cobra FI2000R this afternoon. I was reading the instructions and most of it seems fairly simple. Says to remove both seats and fuel tank console cover. My question is, why is it necessary to remove the console cover? Or is that concealing the front bolt that secures the front of the fuel tank? I have never taken the fuel tank off so I am not sure. Seems like that might be possible. Is there anything I need to know about removing the console. Any dangers or things I need to watch for? Thanks again in advance.

They want you to remove the "console cover" or nacelle to allow access to the front tank mounting bolt. Installing the Cobra can be done without removing the tank, but it's probably easier if you remove it. Either way, you want to have a near-empty tank because the weight of the fuel sloshing around makes it awkward to handle. I have removed a full tank and it isn't very fun.

Thanks CactusJack, I thought that was the reason. Are there any problems in removing and reinstalling the console?

I don't know about an 08'. But on my 06' there are two elect. conn. under the
nacelle that will need to be unpluged to remove the tank. A small flathead screwdriver should
make it easier to get them apart.
I'm not saying that's the only conn. needed to be unpluged to remove the tank.
But to my knowledge that's the only two under the nacelle.

On a 05 Nomad There is 2 electrical connectors under the nacelle. There is 2 gas overflow lines under the tank one in the back right and one on the front right. There is one FI connector on the left side middle that you have to push the center White tabs. On the side facing you and one on the opposite that is a little harder to get to. While pressing in on the two pull the connector towards the back. when installing this fitting back on make sure it clicks into place to avoid spewing gas all over once the fuel pumps builds pressure

You've got the gas lines that have to be removed, make sure you don't kink the main gas feed when putting the tank back down, it's very easy to do. You really don't have to remove the tank, I blocked it up with a 6" 2X4. You can reach everything easily. Should take you about 20 minutes total---the hardest part I found was getting the front bolts back in the gas tank.

Remove the nacelle, unbolt the front and back of the tank, unplug the two small electrical connections at the rear of the tank, and block it up like the pics show. That will give you plenty of room to hook up your wires at the injectors. As cadd 11 stated, be careful not to kink the main fuel line when you lower the tank down.

Caddman is right, I put a Cobra FI on my 07 and it was not nescessary to pull the tank. Take both seats off, the remove the 2 rear bolts and free the wire bundles from the loom attached to each bolt. I put a bunge cord from each hole to the handle bars (not tight just to prevent tank falling off) then took out the 2 front bolts. Lift the back of tank a inch or two, take the fuel line off and then lift the back up enough to slide the 4 inch part of the 2x4 under the rear of tank. Put the Control box in your left side cover with it set at 3 / 5 / 0 and route it's wires through area beside battery along the other wire bundles up the frame rail under tank to the injectors. follow their instructions on the pull stock wire plug, put FI controller plug on injector then plug stock plug in to back of contollers plug and your are ready to put everything back. 1/2 hour max!!!

With the TFI I didn't have to unplug any tank wires or fuel hoses or remove the chrome instrumental cover.

What did you do...pay someone to install it for you? Let me guess, you didn't want to crease your Dockers?

I always pull the tank and think that if just the rear bolts are removed and not the solo front bolt that the tab there will be bent..

Pull all 3 bolts to be safe, but the wood block method will work. I just don't do it that.

The 2 connectors at the front have 2 releases. One tab allows the connector to come apart, and the other tab allows the connector to come off the holders.

You don't need to undo these to raise the tank.

At right front there is a hose coming down, One day you should disconnect it and add a drop of engine oil to it, so it won't stick. The sooner the better. This is a rain car wash drain and has no fuel.

At right rear there is a fuel drain, pull that off some time and add a drop of engine oil to it, so it won't stick.

Anyone with a cali bike will have 2 tubings there and should oil the other one before it sticks too. When these stick and then you want them off they break off. On a cali bike these tubings are marked red and blue, and go back on red and blue fittings.

It may be by removing the left side air filter cover, filter and backing plate you don't need to raise the tank. I don't know because i don't do plug n play, so I don't need to do a thing with the tank at all.

Everything I do gets done in the battery box.
