Mobil-1 Turbo Diesel 5W-40 Synthetic

Hey guys has anybody used this particular syn oil yet??
How do you like it? It looks similar to Rotella syn oil cost $4 more per gallon. Its not EC so should work, just checking before I buy it. using Rotella now and changing it annually. Thx

Hi Doc,

I used the 15-50 Mobile 1 fully synthetic Non EC for cars ($4.75 per quart @ Wally World), but not the turbo diesel. Good luck.

schoeney, you got a deal on that oil. Yesterday i paid 6 and change for the same at walleyworld.. I have a qt of Amsoil on hand in 10-40 and that one goes in first this time of yea to thin the 15/50.

I have temps like +31 at night now, but still ride. I expect this Wed, to head to Md and want the oil changed today...

Doc that outta work for a winter engine oil I guess. I see no reason it won't. Oils for diesel are made to hold crud in suspention better than for gasoline engines, so it should work nicely since the lable doesn't say "EC".

mac I run my oil 1 change out per yr, change it in oct. last year I ran Rotella all year and fixing to change it out. Just wondering if the Mobile -1 turbo diesel 5-40 is any better than the Rotella 5-40 since Mobile 1 is suppose to be a gp4 oil or something like that and rotella is gp3. ?? Thx guy.

I don't know Doc. To me it seems like a matter of degrees. I change any kinds of oils I use apx each 3,000 to 4,000 miles.. On anything I own. I own a volvo turbo and with that you change the oil change the oil and change the oil, and if you don't you can kiss the turbo good by. This one has over 255,000 on it, and I don't think I can even buy one anymore.

Limp mode with a blown turbo unit is apx 30 mph tops.. So there is heavy incentive to not blow it up.

The only vehical I own that gets Full Syn is the Nomad.

The van gets Shell Rotella dino oils in 10w-40 with a bit of that Lucas mirical in a bottle since the engine rear main seal is OEM to 1986, and I don't want to change it.

The truck gets that same oil, and leaks from the OEM 2 piece rear main seal, and I am not going to fix it, or waste Lucas on a leak that big. I can live with that leak when all I do is plow here and go to the dump. No mirical in a bottle will fix it and I am too lazy to craw up under there and yank out that seal. The truck is 84' but the 4 bolt main engine is older, but I don't know how much older.

That engine is a trasistion engine from the time the dipstick was on the drivers side and moved to the pass side, and so for kicks I put in both dip sticks, and can check oil from either side. That messes up heads on kids who think they know something, and when they look I tell em to check both sides!

Did an oil change/filter today to Mobil-1 15W-40 Turbo Diesel full syn and a Pure One filter. Also changed out the rear diff oil to Mobil-1 75W-90 full syn. Do NOT tighten the oil filters with a wrench, use only your hands. It was a bear to get off. Still havent found a good oil filter wrench after buying 2-3, that dont fit after applying torque. ??

Hey Doc
Get a strap wrench and see if you like it, I got 3 or 4 of them cup wrenches and a couple of the band type laying around here but the strap wrench works the best for any filter.

Doc, you'd be surprised how "loose" you can tighten that oil filter and it not leak! My filters can be twisted off by hand by a 10 year old and it never leaks! Once that rubber gasket hits the base, 1/2 turn and thats it. Comes off no problem!...
