stripped the oil plug

Somehow I stripped the oil plug threads on the oil pan by over tighten don't now what I was thinking. I used locktite and seems to be holding. Is it possible to use a tap and re thread or go to a bigger plug?

Does anyone know if this fix works on an '06 1600 Nomad?

This fix worked for a BUBF, but I'm not sure of the stock sizes of the plugs on other Vulcans. The plug was made by Oil-Tite, part number 65213, and was a 12mm with a 1.75 pitch (M12-1.75). Cost was $2.99 Repair time was about 5 minutes.

Tighten it till it strips and then back off a half turn did we.

Seriously, I would imagine they are all the same but don't take my word for it.
This will get your post back to the top and someone with real knowledge will help.

Yeah, duct tape won't work so JB Weld is the answer. Not! Fix it right for christ sake. There are plenty of suggestions here on the correct way to handle this issue.

Buy a torque wrench so this doesn't happen again. Harbor freight torque wrench is all you need.

It has always amazed me the number of people that work on their equipment without one.

Smile Torque Wrench(s)

I guess I must be "overdoing it" then. I have 3, a 1/2" drive (20-150 ft lbs) a 3/8" drive (10-75 ft lbs) and a 3/8" drive (25-250 inch lbs). I'm no mechanic, so it is even more important so I don't over-tighten things so they break. Also need to know that I tighten things like the axles and brakes properly. You can never be too careful.

I have 3 of them myself. 1/2", 3/8" and a 1/4" in/lbs wrenches.

1 more tip- After you remove the tap or self tapping drain plug remove the oil filler plug and pour in 1/2-1 qt of oil and let it drain good. It will remove any debris that is in the crankcase.

Stripped or Not Secure Oil Plug

In a nut shell bought RED years back that had set in a warehouse for a long time. I noticed right away the oil plug was not seating correctly. However I did continue to use it. Finally it was just not safe to me.

No wanting to do a major project I purchase these only needed one but it was a box purchase.

No biggie to thread right in. But I do the side drain 100% of the time.
