Hey guys, I'm pretty stoked to become a Vaquero owner.
She's a 2011 with 9500 miles and a fitting upgrade from the Nomad. I cant wait to get to the MVC for my plate & registration. I've wanted one of these for a lonnngggggg time! :)

congrats on the new bike. you will love it. but for the life of me i cannot understand all these bikes people are buying that are over 10 years old and have less than 10,000 miles on them. iv'e never owned a bike that i did'nt put at least 10,000 miles a year on it. most have over 100,000 miles before i get rid of them. last bike had 214,000 miles on it. i have a 2019 voyager bought it in nov. of 2019 so did'nt get to ride it till april of 2020. it sits here with almost 10,000 miles on it now. course the harley riders in my area thats common to own a 15 year old bike and it only has 5,000 miles on it.

I think some people buy a motorcycle later in life because they have always wanted one. Then they realize motorcycling is not for them or they don't have buddies to ride with and their enthusiasm wanes but they don't want to sell the bike and will use it once in a while. Some buy a bike just for bragging rites and it hardly gets used. In Canada you pay so much for insurance its too expensive to have a bike and not use it.

Riding is a very personal thing. But I too wonder how people sell their bikes, saying things like "I have nobody to ride with". To me, riding alone is one of the great things to do, very cathartic and stress settling. I can easily roll off 200 miles on a ride just by myself. But for others not comfortable riding alone, it might be a lack of their riding confidence (the "what if something happens") or lack of confidence in the bike (again "what if something happens"). For a lot of riders the conditions have to be near perfect to ride. I've had many a great ride in less than prime conditions. I used to have a 23 mile commute one way to work on rural roads, and it was great to put on at least 50 miles a day.

I have worked from home since 2003, so my riding is now all pleasure/touring other than commuting to the various sites at which I teach motorcycle riding classes. For many its a matter of actually choosing to make the time for riding, or choosing riding over the so many other activities we get involved in. So again it is a very personal choice. But when you spend $10,000 and a LOT more to own a bike, make time and plan time to ride it, use it, get it dirty.

i agree with the riding responses. i had a buddy that if it was below 75 it was to cold. above 80 and it was to hot. i myself love riding alone or with the wife on the back. iv'e organized rides and got tired of the complaining. your riding to far between stops or your not riding far enough between stops. or your riding to fast or slow. or the roads you picked are to rough. hard to find people that have the same enthusiasm. or the time. i was a road captain for a bike club. most wanted to go riding but after 30 miles they split off and went home. or they did'nt want to start before 1:00 in the afternoon and wanted to be home before 3:00 pm.so now that i sit back and think about it. low mileage bikes make sense. but in my mind it doesn't make sense to buy a 20 to 30,000 dollar bike to just sit in the garage. so my brothers and sisters. ride on and enjoy the time. and mental relaxation..

In December (2020) MBFAM (My Brother From Another Mother) bought a used 2017 Indian Chieftain. The PO had bought it new in July of 2017. The day I picked it up, it had 708 miles on it! (I am storing it this winter, while he "winters" in AZ).

I told MBFAM, I had put more miles on my bike in Sept of '20, than this bike had on it in three years! 708 miles divided by 38 months of ownership equals 18.63 miles per month! I put that many miles on it during the test ride.
It's crazy...
You almost have to worry about things drying out with that little use.
