Getting back into riding, need help

I haven't ridden in 10 years, had a KLR and a Ninja when I was younger, I love the Vulcan Nomad and will be using it for my 55 minute commute to work. I want to make sure I make a good purchase.

I would say it all depends what roads you travel on your commute.
I would not want a Nomad for a 55 minute commute in stop and go traffic, I would want something lighter. If its mostly highway then a Nomad would do the job.

Welcome to the forum.

What redjay says is a really big consideration. I find my Vaquero a pain at times in lots of city traffic. But only having 1 bike I deal with it.

Back to your question. Keep in mind I am no expert, but I can share some thoughts.

Drive it see how you like it, (I know= DUH) just thinking of the weight and cornering since your coming back from a smaller and more nimble past experience on the road.
I came back after 17 years of no bike and it took all of 6 months to wish I went bigger when I came back. 500 then to a 600 when I came back.
** I must admit though the first 6 months was a big step in learning to be comfortable again. 2 years later went to the 1500 And I was really happy.

I am moving to New Mexico and will be driving from Las Cruces to Alamogordo, no traffic at all, no stop lights. I want a big heavy bike so it holds a line by itself and has plenty of power
