No Oil Pressure update with pics

My baby went to the Dr last week

and this is what he found. Judges oil gear failed. Flat head bolts holding it together sheared off letting it move around damaging the flats on the end of the gear shaft.

Which has caused this.

The good news is that I got her shut down soon enough that there isn't any major damage. Looks like a new oil pump gear, gaskets, seals, rings and HLAs will take care of the problem. Looking forward to getting her back in a couple of weeks with a fresh engine. Also discovered the waterpump shaft seal was leaking letting oil into the engine coolant.

Did you also contact Judge and let him know about the gear failure? I would be interested to what Judge says on it, could have been a bad batch of bolts not able to handle the shear load, and may be prudent to let the others that did the mod know,

It's not really the bad, the hardest part is trying to figure out where those left over parts went.

You want to really pull a nasty joke, wait until your buddy has it all buttoned up, then look down at the floor, bend down and pick up a bolt or something and ask what it was for, of course don't tell him for a few minutes that you had it in you hand already. Once he has either stopped laughing or the blood has stopped coming out of your nose, you can both enjoy a nice cold beer.

I am not doing this myself and after seeing that laying open like that I am glad someone else is doing it.

It will cost me plenty thats for sure. But I couldn't replace it for that and she will be a fresh motor when he is done. He is planning on having it back together in a couple more weeks of which about five days will be waiting on parts.

I have not contacted Judge as there is really nothing he could do. Nor would I expect him to. I did the gear two years ago and it has given me 10000 miles for the price of the gear.

Not saying Judge could do anything, but it might give him a heads up to check for any possible machining or other defects that may have contributed, i would call him or email him to let him know, just out of the knowledge that it may be of concern to him and he can do a follow up with wherever he gets the parts from.

I guess the point I am trying to make, is that if i was the manufacturer or distributor of this item, I would be interested in this and possibly even getting the failed item back so I could look at it and try and determine what the problem was. It helps to alleviate any possible future problems.

from what I have seen, and from what Judge tells me, the failures like this generally occur from the clutch spring tabs contacting the oil pump gear. Be sure they are flush or below the gear on the back, or this will happen again to your new oil pump gear!! The spring tabs are the culprit for JOG failures, and quite often the cause of POG failures.

The tabs were checked when it was torn down and all of them were still below the face of the gear. I did press them down when I did the gear two years ago.
