Oh baby!
Got my baby back from the shop last night with the new Cobras and Dyna Beads mounted. Man is that a nice ride!. It was so nice that I didn't care that it was only 27 this morning. I rode her to work. Supposed to be mid 40's today and snow tomorrow so I figured I better get a few miles in while I can. C'mon summer. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

My rear Cobra was delivered yesterday from Moto X Outlet. I have about 3K left on my Stone.

Had 10k on the OEM's and put the Cobras on last Friday with Dyna Beads. (Hint: after setting the first bead of the tire, use a small funnel to pour in the beads before sealing it up.) Took it easy the first 100 miles and the tires were ultra smooth. Went out to Tortilla Flat on Saturday with the twists and it was unbelievable in the corners. I thought the Nomad was pretty good before, it is really solid and smooth with the new Cobras.
Maybe it is just because they are new. I do not feel bumps, road snakes, and seams nearly as much as I did with the originals. The Nomad also tracks straighter with less input. It took my local Kawa mechanic a little over two hours to do the tires. Probably would have gone faster if we weren't talking with each other while he was doing it. I'm running the tires at 42F/44R for the curious.

I used Dyna Beads in my rear last time too. I like them. I went in person to White Horse Press , but they have a on line catalog.
If you can't find the beads there call them. I believe they will have the lowest pricing .. I used a coleman funnel with clear tubing. 2 sections of tubing to step down the funnel to the vavle stem size worked easy for me. After i did I swing the valve sterm 180 degrees and left it there for easier access. I should have done that first. Once more I can't stress the point enough SERVICE the swing arm when you change a rear tire!

I think Innovative Balancing (the makers of Dynabeads) are probably cheaper on the beads, but a couple bucks more for shipping, so it's probably a wash.

I assume all of you guys have a dealer change your tire when you use Dyanbeads??? I called 3 dealers and they tell me they won't put them in for me when they change the tire.
Do you just pull the weights off and add them later?

Well the beads at WHP were 8 bucks for 4 ounces. I bought enough to do ft and rr tires..
I hand spooned my old dead brick off, and intalled my CT by hand the same way. I used an apple crate as a support because my joint compound buckets are for maple sap. And yea if the installer won't install the beads just get him to not to bother any ballancing. Then you can let the air out and install the beads via the valve stem. More or less all tires have some sort of paint dot to show the light spot, which in theory should be lined up wiith the valve stem. The bad part is some tires have all sorts of dots painted on and I can't tell you why. No weights are even wanted when you run beads, and you can run the beads on any vehicals you have.... No dealer here would install the CT, so it didn't seem like I had much of a choice. I did have the same old spoons I always had though.. The hardest part was getting the tire BEAD seated. That took 4 tries, where I levered the tire more at ther sticky place. The 5th try it popped on and was good. I never exceeeded the 51 psi rating mentioned on the side of the tire. DO NOT EXCEED THAT RATING! If you do, or some fool shop man does it just might be the last thing anyone does. That can create a really big BOOM!

My Kawa dealer had no problem with putting them in for me. Tires and install was the same whether they used weights or not. They had never heard of Dyna Beads either. Their attitude was what the heck I can be the guinea pig and if works for me they might put them in stock. If it didn't work, then they were going to get paid for taking the tires back off, taking them all out, rebalancing the wheel, etc. From their perspective they won either way. So far the Cobras are exceptionally smooth.
