My newly aquired 05 Nomad
I have only had my Nomad for a few weeks now, upgraded from an 1100 Virago. This bike is now my all time favorite, it has the look i desire and the feel. Although I think I may add some risers or change the handle bars as I am only 5'9" and the way they sit now i feel I have to stretch a little too far forward.
I have only added one thing so far to the bike and that is the aluminum grille over the rad, but I do plan a lot more additions through time as cash flow permits. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Different bike time for a new helmet
I decided I would like to have an alternative to the full face as sometime i feel restricted so I splurged and bought a 3/4 Face helmet. I found a Rockhard Hustler Vol2 online at a irresistible price so I had to have it.

Welcome, you'll like it here. That grill you have is the one I want. After much trial and error, adjusting and readjusting, I finally got exactly the riding position I've always wanted. I too am 5 - 9 , at least on my tall days, I started working with a 1500, then graduated to the 1600. Maybe I can save you some time and expense. Here's what I did. I installed a mustang seat. This brought me forward, supported my back and gave me the perfect "trough" to sit in. I installed the Phat ll risers , no change in cables necessary. And my bars have a little more rise than stock and are about one and a half inch narrower. I now sit straight up, slightly leaning back, fully suppored by the Mustang back support, and arms extended, but elbows still slightly bent and relaxed. My hands are up but still below my shoulders. For me a very natural and relaxed position. No sliding and both back and butt are fully supported. Feet and legs out front, but relaxed and very natural feeling.

Welcome from Florida. You're gonna love the Nomad. I installed risers w 3/4 in rise and 2 in pullback and made it perfect for me.

That's a nice looking grill cover but it looks like it would block a lot of air going thru the radiator.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and greets.
Actually I found the rad cover on ebay, there is a seller from Ontario that specializes in grille covers. cost me a total of $48 cdn with shipping. It sits out about 1 inch from the actual rad so there is still quite a bit of air flow, if it had been mounted flush to the rad I would have been concerned and hesitated about putting it on. Thanks for the advice on the seat and risers. I do plan on replacing the driver seat sometime in the future as I find it uncomfortable in the crotch area especially.
