Bike got a little flooded

The ridiculous rain and flooding here in Charleston caught my bike before I realized it. I live in a townhouse and park the bike in the parking lot. I got home from work and found the rear tire in a few inches if water one night.

My neighbor told me that the water had been much deeper before I got home.

So, today I changed the oil and filter and final drive oil. Will do the rear brakes this weekend with my buddy who has one of the hand pump bleeders. I'm pretty sure the two bleeder screws were under water since there was some liquid in one of the caps.

I was able to fire up the bike after the oil change and everything runs fine. Phew!!

It was my fault it happened in the first place since I didn't move the bike to higher ground, but then again, this was the one in one thousand year storm, so who knew?!

The good news is, you'll be good for another 1000 years.

Yeah, we are facing the flooded rivers coming from the upstate now. Fortunately, I'm pretty clear of either river.

I have to laugh at the 1 in a 1,000 year storm comments. Considering that the white civilization has only been in North America just slightly over 500 years and since it's not too likely that the North America Native tribes weren't keeping weather records prior to that point ......

I wondered the same thing. I thought that they had only been tracking storms for maybe 150 years or so.

It was just the perfect storm. Minus Marky Mark and George Clooney.

What I really learned from this event is.... Always have flood insurance, even if you aren't in a flood zone. Two people I work with have major damage and no flood insurance. Guess we will see what FEMA does for them.

There's a difference between flood damage and water damage. Last time I was married, we owned a house at the bottom of a hill. Every time it rained, the storm grate (in front of our house) got clogged and water would enter our basement. The first time I called my insurance agent, I told him I had flood damage and of course he said I didn't have flood insurance. After listening to my explanation of what happened, he said, "That wasn't flood damage. It was WATER damage and you're covered.". I asked what the difference was. He said something about being in a flood area vs. not being in one.

My point is that flood insurance requires a separate rider, it's typically expensive and you don't necessarily need it. Talk to your insurance agent before you give away your money.
