You can run it but may cause pinging,,unless you have a fuel processor.. with a processor it will run a tad cooler as well and regular can be used in most cases,,But may still ping in hot weather

well with the price going up, ol blue boy is going on a low octane diet for a while, I guess if it starts to ping I can put some octane buster in it.

Is the bike all stock still? You can add a TFI to a all stock bike and get no ping on 87 octane and in fact this is a good idea to do.

You will get no ping probably, but not much more if any power, and can run 87 octane all day long.

The comprssion ratio usually demand which octane and the comp ratio on a Nomad is smack in the regular 87 gas octane range.

The reason the maker wants hi test is because they leaned the engine out with the ecu really bad.. The intake is heated air and restricted as is the exhaust.

Thats all I ran in the bike, worked fine. But you may need a fuel processor to be able to do so.

After install of Power Commander FP, Cobra True Dual exhaust, and Chucksters Single plate intake. . . (whew) I ran regular for a while and then went back to premium due to mpg at curent FP settings are better. Planning a Dyno/map/tune-up on regular fuel this summer. Point is there's lots of mods and variables available for the Nomads.

If I decide to put on any more power, I'll try to figure out how to fit my Nomad pipes and bags onto a new 2000 LT. Sat the new Vaquero last week and like my '06 Nomad better.

I ran a mix of 93 octane in one tank and then 89 octane in the next. Now run 87 octane exclusively. Have had no problems. I do have the Cobra FI2000R installed and this allows the Nomad to run on 87 octane.

The other week I used reg unleaded as the premium pump was not working. Probably put about 2 Gal in the tank mixed with the Gal of premium left in the tank to finish my ride. The bike is stock and ran fine, no pinging at all. It is not something I intend to do on any regular basis, but as I said no issues.

All I ever ran in my 2000 Fi Classic, (50,000 + miles), my Fi 2002 Nomad (40,000 + miles), and now my 2003 Fi Nomad, is 87 Octane. Weather in Mississippi ranges from the low 80's to the low 100's in the summertime. No ping, pong or puke.

Do guys with all stock bikes, other than having a TFI or Cobra get any better MPG's?

All stock intake and all stock exhaust.
