HLA ticking after long no starting problem Using Suzuki parts

I have RV'd out to the Oregon Coast, been here for a month put 1k miles on. Lots of rain. Went out to go for bike ride Christmas and bike would not start. I tried starting it well over a dozen times before it started. During that time I was pull the spark plug, using small torch to burn fuel off the plugs and inside the cylinders everytime I tried to start it. After use HEET and starting fluid I got is started but I was ticking. I have changed oil, started bike several times, still ticking.

So my question is, has anybody had similiar problem and ADJUSTER-LASH HLA fixed them selfs or should I remove engine to fix?

Second question has anybody used Suzuki Maurader 1600 engine parts to fix there 1500 or 1600 Nomads? Parts are cheaper

So for a month the bike has not been started? Could be your lifters have collapsed. Some times it takes a few runs before the lifters are back to full operation specially after a winter lay away

The bike has been used 1 or 2 times a week. I believe from all the cranking to get it started the HLA have collapsed.

Yes it was full before starting and because of all the flooding and cranking after it started I changed the oil and it is full again.

2004 Nomad 1500. 11k miles
Nov 2014 rebuilt top end because of jug antifreeze leak. So new timing chains. I have ridden bike 1000 miles since rebuild

Might want to make sure timing didn't jump after chain install since has a long crank time to try and get it firing.

What caused the problem, is rain either threw the gas cap lock or chucksters open airfilter.

The bike still idles smoothly. How do I verify timing? Remove valve cover and line up timing marks?

I would say then take it for a ride and see if will come out of it. Like I said before guys have had their lift(S) collapsed over winter and it took a couple tries to get the ticking out. It did happen to me on my 04 one winter and I rode it like that and had plans to put seafoam in the oil like some people had said and when I went to ride it the next time the ticking was gone, without putting seafoam on it.
