RADIO

Was hoping to get an idea of what make/model and how to install a radio from you folks. I know many of you have done it already. I'm feeling a bit timid since I don't have much info on types of radios and the in's and out's of installing one.

thanks

If your mounting it in a fairing, any car radio should work and mount the same as in a car. A lot of guys use Marine stereos and speakers. Ive used two Pioneer decks so far and they do the job but on my latest one the CD's skipped bad from new. With Ipods and MP3 players you don't even need a CD player anymore.
Get a radio with front USB and Aux jack, as that will be more usefull. If your mounting the speakers on the handlebars, there are housings you can buy, and you could install the radio in a saddlebag, and operate it with a remote on the handlebars.

If you have a fairing, you can basically use any kind of car stereo, just add a marine cover ($10 - $20). I have a Blaupunkt stereo with a radio, aux jack (mp3 player) and an SD card slot. I love the SD card slot as I don't have to worry about having my Ipod charged.

Installation is pretty straight forward, but it always seems to take a couple of hours to install

Ive even had a marine cover on my radio and its never been a problem. I try to be carefull when Im washing the bike and not hode it down directly. Although its probably a good idea to use one especially if you have a decent radio.
Im kinda hoping my quits so I have an excuse to get a new one, but it just keeps on playing. ;)

A marine splash cover not only protects the unit from water, it would protect it from dust, which is a bigger concern to some of us than getting it wet.
