Exhaust wrap???
Thinking of wrapping the front V & H pipes, as anybody done this?
Reason for doing is for performance, old school look and tired of cleaning the pipes (rubber and/or melted rain suit pants) Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Exhaust wrap???
I think youll be the first on a Nomad, Im not sure how it will look if you leave most of the other stuff all shiny, usually thats done on bikes with no chrome.
But I know how you feel about the melted pants on the pipes, I ruined about six pair so far.

Learn to keep your feet/pants off the pipes. It can be done. I've never melted anything on my pipes.

I doubt wrap will enhance speed on a Nomad.. But you can wrap if you want... Pull the chrome shields

Exhaust wrap???
Black wrap would give it an interesting look.
I'm not a mechanic but I agree with Mac on the performance stand point.

Exhaust wrap???
Well the folks that make the pipe wrapper say it increases HP by keeping the pipe hot making it easier for exhaust to escape. And NASCAR drivers use 'em to. So there. ::)
I was going to try it to Timebandit. I will if you will. I'm crazy enough to put iddy biddy ceramic balls in my tyres and call them balanced.

Timebandit,
What fairing do you have on your bike ? Any chance you could set the pic so it can be enlarged? Would love to see it a bit better

Exhaust wrap???
They say strapping magnets on plastic fuel line aligns fuel molecules too, and that once a cow jumped the moon.
I believe more that a cow can jump the moon than magnets will effect gasoline.. More or less wrap is for to keep valve stems from cooling too fast. They cool to fast and they warp. Tennis balls assist in shut down of hot rodded engines too.. Wrap may effect the hot air columb, but not much on a Nomad.. With the mild cam and moderate intake body, and no options for MORE, wrap is moot. Do it if it makes you feel good... Just don't expect any increase in seat of the pants power. I have this same argument with hyperhcagers... If I could buy a hyper charger for 50 bucks NEW, I would have one, for the looks. Mine would be wired OPEN, or dentented open and closed with NO vacuum operation at all. There is no more gain than any other bigger air filter set up since there is No impellors.. A hyper chager is just a big air filter and there is no chargin nuthin' about it. Not even RAM Air....

Exhaust wrap???
The exhaust wrap will keep the exhaust gasses hotter on the way to the muffler, which will improve exhaust gas scavenging (gas will leave the combustion chamber a tad faster). However, with an engine that isn't making a lot of ponies to start with, I agree with Mac, don't expect much, if anything. I do think the pipes will look pretty neat when wrapped though.

Exhaust wrap???
yeah I wish there were bigger intake bodies, "RADICAL CAM's" 3" header pipes, that ended straight.. But that sort of engine isn't great for touring, and isn't quiet either..
Then 1/2 the guys would have strokes for the noise and the lumpy noisey idle.. We each bought mild touring bikes, with monster sized pistons.. These produce tourque, and are kinda the Frieght Liners of all motorcycles.. Untill we can get cam sets and bigger intake bores we are stuck in the basic power bands we git... I am not holding my breath for drag parts since the 1500 and 1600 are DOA...
