Lubed swing arm and drive shaft

Just finished lubing the swing arm bearings and drive shaft splines.
Modified the spacer that is on the swing arm pivot shaft and installed a grease jerk as mentioned in Gadget's site while I was at it. All went well. The factory lube on the drive shaft spines was still doing it's job at 10,600 miles . The amount of grease present in the propeller shaft sliding joint from the factory was not the .68 US oz or 20 ml ( about half a whiskey shot glass) the service Manuel says to use when doing this service. I could clean out all of the old factory grease with a single Kleenex. Found the same condition when I lubed the steering stem bearing. Appears as if the factory uses a small about of high quality lube, and this does the job until time for service. The Manuel says to use high-temperature grease when packing the propeller shaft sliding joint. I used Green Grease a high quality synthetic recommended for motorcycles, ATVs, boat trailers, etc. got it at Auto zone.

Lubed swing arm and drive shaft

I did mine last spring, and its not difficult at all. Once you get into it, its all pretty basic and straightforward. I used a Moly grease and hopefully it will be Ok for a couple of years.

Lubed swing arm and drive shaft

I have my swingarm bearings greased with evey other rear tire change, and the steering stem with every front tire change. It works out to about 18-20 thou for the swingarm and 15-16 thou for the steering stem. It's the only way I can seem to remember when I last had them done.
