Question: Fire & Steel backrest
Hello, and thanks for any help you can give me in advance. I'm wondering if anyone knows if you can just replace the pad cover on the backrest. I notice it has a zipper on the bottom and it looks like it can be changed, but i've searched and can't find info on it. Hate like hell to spend a couple hundred on a whole new backrest because of a scuff mark on the pad. Its not a huge issue but it irritates me everytime I look at my bike. My bike is a 2004 and I assume it was installed the same year, if that makes a difference. Thanks again for any info.

Question: Fire & Steel backrest
Steve,
My bet is that the zipper is to change out/replace the foam padding in the backrest. Do you have an '04 accessories catalogue, or have you looked on-line (www.kawasaki.com) for the part? You might also stop by the dealership and see if they have advise, or even take it too a leather manufacturer in your area and see if they can dye it. I hope that I haven't overwhelmed you with ideas, but I hope that one of them might help. Rich |

Nomad132: Get ya some Go-Jo hand cleaner with pumice at wally world, etc and rub that scuff mark with a dab. Will take it right off. Do it lightly !! Then you can treat the pleather with your choice. :-)

Question: Fire & Steel backrest
I tried to take the cover off...found out it is all glued together..the foam, steel backing plate, and cover...and ended up being a real torn up mess..I ended up buying a complete take off pad on e-bay .. about as cheap as having a new cover made..
Actually, a little bit of toothpaste/water and cotton ball, gently rubbed around the area will take it out pretty well.. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Another idea---it's not a permanent fix, but maybe a little dab of black shoepolish?

Question: Fire & Steel backrest
Thanks for all the feedback, I should have been more specific,it's a little more than a scuff,it is like its almost worn through to the pad about the size of a quarter, like something constantly rubbing on this one spot, its kind of odd. I guess e-bay will be my best bet. Thanks again

carring an extra helmet over top of the backrest will do that. My son ruined mine that way
