Nomad vs. "the" Coyote

Barely 2 months with the new Nomad and my 1st near miss. Went for "quick spin" that turned into a 3hr ride thru the cool desert night air under a full moon. Just after midnight, 50mi. from nowhere, I catch a flash out my side vision. It was a Coyote! Dang thing bolted right out in front of me doing 65. Only reaction was to hang on tight and lifted my legs off the hyway pegs (don't know why I did that). I didn't hit him, don't know how cause he was right in front of me. After the adrenaline stopped pumping and I could breath again, all I could think of was, I just read that post about dogs but they didn't warn me 'bout coyotes!

Where did you come across the coyote? I'm surprised I don't see more of them considering I ride between Chandler and Casa Grande and Coolidge quite often. I'd have pulled my feet up, too. You wouldn't want to get nipped by a wild animal that was probably rabid.

Last year when Mark and I were riding to Mesquite, we were going up Hwy 93 between Wikieup and I-40 and the biggest coyote I've ever seen crossed the highway in front of Mark. It wasn't so close it was a near miss, maybe 50 yards away.

just past Red River cattle ranch between Maricopa & Stanfield. Poor coyote looked more surprised than me.

We have a lot of them in Iowa. I have seen them while driving a car, but not while on the bike. Deer are a much worse problem here. Damn things are corn fed and big for what they are.
