Reckless Fairings

What is the latest on Reckless? Are you owners of 1500 fairings happy?
Any problems?

Any reason not to buy?

Just curious. Looking to install one on mine.

I have a 1600 and I am very satisfied. It bolted right up and looks great. Got mine with the stereo (CD / 4 x 4" speakeres). I really like it.

It's as good or better than most on the market at a better price, plus I like that it's made of fibergalss. Just make sure you do business with Alex (he's the owner) directly as much as possible. He responds pretty quickly to email.

Thanks Kingpin,
I read many of the 2 year old posts and it sounded like thaer were some quality issues.
Good report from you sounds better.

I'm quite happy with mine on my 01 1500. I ordered the fairing with the 6.5" speaker openings and ordered my own stereo equipment to reduce the cost. About the only thing I'm not thrilled with is there is a bit of a gap around the headlight and I get quite a few bugs coming through there and splattering on the back of the speedo nacelle. I'll likely try to find some sort of weather stripping or something this off season to seal that up more like the Harley and Premeux fairings.

For the $ and what you get I doubt you'll find a better bargain for your bike.

I bought one last winter for my wife's 1500 trike.
Fits good. No complaints.
We also got the smoked colored wind deflectors.

I got mine this spring
I screwed up and ordered a 1500 for my 1600.
I think the only difference is the mounting brackets
so I just started all the bolts on the bracket and faring then tightend them all down. The faring is fiberglass so it flexed to fit. a ABS faring would have broken
And sense it is fiberglass if anything happens to it you can fix it

I noticed in some of the pictures I've seen that there is a gap around the headlight. I wondered if you could get a piece of car door molding the right size and stick it to the fairing to line up with the headlight. Or maybe stick to the headlight bucket to fill the gap.
Just thinking ahead. I'm glad to hear that the mounting issues seem to be worked out since 2010. Some of the posts back then indicated there was a quality issue. Thanks for you replies, everyone.

I'm curious about the reports from those that say they have a gap between the headlight and the fairing. I have a gap, albeit I never notice it. In fact, I was at a "bike night" the other. . . . day, and several commented on how good the fairing looked and that it was a great fit to the bike.

I'll take another look, but I honestly never really noticed a gap that seems bigger than it should be.

There HAS to be a gap. You don't want the fairing to rub the headlight bucket.

Anyone know if a Harley inner will match up with a Reckless outer?

I highly doubt it. However, a Harley inner WILL match up to a Harley outer. :)

You'll have a gap unless the headlight is integrated into the fairing.

I kind of doubted it myself Chris. I want to be able to mount the gauges that a Harley inner would permit but the only outers i can afford are busted up then add the cost of brackets and I'm over budget. Plus fiberglass is nice. Was hoping to make it a winter project.

You might be able to make your own brackets. I couldn't but Chucksters aren't that expensive ($120 or so...I can't remember). For the HD fairing, you'd need the inner, outer, windscreen, brackets and either the HD headlight setup or be willing to cut out the opening for the Nomad headlight. If you're going to add gauges, there really isn't any other way to go that doesn't look "added on". There are deals out there on HD fairings. I've seen inners (with a bit of road rash) for less than $100 and outers in the same condition for $125. Even with shipping, you're at less than $300. Add another $150 for brackets and misc bolts, another $75 for a windscreen and $100 for the HD headlight assy and you're at about a bit over $600. You'll have to look and be patient for the right inner/outer but I think it's worth it. You'd have to buy gauges no matter which fairing you got. The HD inner takes standard size 2 1/16" small gauges and 3 3/8" large gauges (speedo/tach). The tach wires right in to your coil. I still can't get the HD speedo to work. :( I honestly think, if you shop around, you'd come out about even no matter which fairing you choose if you want gauges. This doesn't include the price of gauges and a stereo but stereos/speakers are dirt cheap. I paid $130 for my stereo (marine Sony with USB) and around $50 for a pair of good speakers.

After a certain number of posts, you'll be invited to join the Belly Button Club, too. The initiation is kinda rough.
