What does this mean?

I've been riding off and on for a good forty years ! I'm accustomed to the practice of a casual friendly wave to fellow bikers. While I was sleeping, did someone come out with some new sign code book? When I was pulling out from a stop light (hands busy, can't wave) a biker coming toward me looked at me and rapped his helmet two or three times with his knuckles and kept on going. I have no clue what that was supposed to mean! Where is the sign guide book, and why wasn't I informed that it was available?

I think it's either
a) cop/traffic ahead
b) your high beams are on
OR
c) trying to scratch an itch on the top of his head. BTDT.

I actually reached up to feel for something stuck on it, felt like a 'tard, but wtf? No problems anywhere I could see or feel. I'm on top of an Army base and weird stuff like this on occasion. I just attribute it to drugs or PTSD-or both.

My high beams were on, always are in the daytime. He was six lanes over from me so I really don't think I was blinding him! I thought about the Police, just cuz I didn't see any doesn't mean they wasn't around. I couldn't make a correlation in my head with anything that made sense, outside of check your helmet. Or maybe he was just getting the attention of the other Voices in his head.

Just so you can feel assured it is a signal for a cop ahead...

http://home.comcast.net/~teighe/site...ba81f33bed06d7

Scroll down the page to see the signal they show. Hopefully it looked like that.

I pat the top of my helmet, but it is pretty universal that po-po is around.

According to David Hough in "More Proficient Motorcycling", tapping the top of your head / helmet means "turn on your headlight." Maybe you're high beam is burned out.

Probably is an unwritten hand sign known amongst riders. You won't find it in a proper ridding course because I think it's illegal to warn someone of police presence if they're looking for law breakers. And schools can't promote illegal behavior.
