Goodbye lowers hello spotties

Just finished mounting my spotties on the lower deflector brackets. I have left the perspex deflectors off. Made up a couple of supports out of 3/16" alli and a few hours later its a done thing. Just need a couple of chrome dome nuts for the base now
And no the back of the light is not touching the deflector plate, just looks that way. There is about 1/2" clearance.

Yep, could put them straight back on if I like and leave the lights where they are. But I won't.

The triagulation of lighting is a good thing, but the lowers are there to help prevent buffeting. I would be curious how the aerodynamics are affected with the lights in leiu of the lowers. I utilized over-sized lowers and engine guard chaps to create a super-comfortable buffet free rider zone which was perfect for long trips, while aattaching the aux lights in a more traditional location. To each their own however....

Like I said in my previous posts I did some tests with and without them fitted and I could not tell the difference. I tried different speeds, pushing into the wind and then with a tail wind. No change.
Personally I think the small OEM deflectors don't make much difference BUT the larger ones probably do. That's why I decided to give them the flick and use that space for something more useful. Just my opinion.
Also i have the OEM light bar which is to narrow to allow my lights to be mounted clear of the headlight.

It will be interesting to see if the increased buffeting makes riding less enjoyable.

Like Netnorske, I created a buffer-free zone as well; chaps, batwing, lowers, batwing deflectors. My bike didn't have lowers on it when I bought it, and I could definitely tell the difference once I added OEM lowers. I wouldn't go back, but to each his own. Muz, that's a nice camper in the reflection of your 3rd pic on post #1. I'm jealous! And I think Muz created that tag line for me.

Kawasaki puts lowers on these bikes for a reason. I'm not buying that you have the one single Nomad that doesn't have a buffeting problem.

Thanks mate, we done half the country in it so far but its a big country. Its quite distorted in that reflection. Its actually a 23 footer and not so wedged at the front.
Thing is its warm to hot here most of the year so I don't really like encapsulating myself behind a lot of stuff on my bike. Haveing said that, buffeting is really not an issue but some ventilation is. Then you got the barn door wind effect with the addition of chaps and deflectors etc which I don't like at all. Wind drag is bad enough just with the screen.

I know what you mean, I live in Phoenix. It's hot here, too.

last time i was there performing a warehouse factory audit (inventory and financial audits located a few blocks from ASU), it was 113 degrees at 10:00 pm with a 15-20 mph wind. The warehouse was too big to to have an AC, and their dock doors were open all the time. Thought I had discovered hell. Felt like someone was shoving a hair dryer in my face.

After the audit I traveled to my friend's house in Mesa and when we pulled up, there was a coyote beside a cactus in his backyard. compared to GA, I may have well been on another planet. beautiful, but different.
