Could you move the ignition switch to....

Has anyone thought through the possibility of moving the ignition sw to an area, on the frame, between the front of the tank and the steering head..on the right side..and in the center of the "head cover"....it's basically that triangular area just behind the steering head...my suzuki Volusia had the ignition in that spot and it was always easy to access..as the front tire turns to the left when parked, the area was always east to get to...I just don't know if there is physically enough room "inside" to put it in this area....and then there is the issue of a mounting bracket...I think it would be relatively easy to cut a round hole in the plastic cover and the sheet metal frame brace under it..and I think the stock wiring would probably reach..has anyone else consider this at all?

I always thought the Vol location was a PITA but then found my 03 Nad was even worse. Gadget has a few options on his site.

Relocating it can be done, but I'm not much of a help as to how. :-/ My PO had it done to "Scarlett", and it looks great and is more functional than anything else out there. I'd talk to CJ and Mac and Vulcan E and all the others that have taken the tank off, because I'm sure that they would be able to help you in putting on something like what I have. (I still have a lot of contact with my PO if you need me to ask him how he had it done and where he bought the ignition switch if you need.)

Rich: I see your PO used a HD ignition sw..probably the electronic rather than the mechanial...wonder where he got the chrome looking insert plate...looks better than shop made.....and I guess the wires reached fairly easily...

My ignition switch is just ahead of the speedo. Where's yours? I think that's a pretty accessible location.

The 1500 sw is located down on the front of the radiators left side, near the horn...really lousy location...clunk my helmet on the clutch lever most of the time trying to reach it...

Now that makes me wonder....would the 1600 speedo/instrument chrome cover fit on the 1500..and would the ignition sw be transferable to the 1600 cover....humm....hummm...

I am not positive...but the tank is so much different on the 1600 that I would be surprised if it would fit without some fabrication.

That's a cool lookin setup Rich, wish I would have done something like that on my 1500. I sure hated reaching for the ignition all the time :(" title="" border="0"/>

if I had a 1500 and wanted to move the ign, I would use this method, but still not exactly, as i would try to install the ign sw about the lock on the cover, but with the same method.

http://www.gadgetjq.com/Ignition_Switch_Relo.htm

The horn mount I could see getting a tad warmer than the ing sw might like... fingers too for that matter.
