Another cell phone caused accident

I got this as an email from a friend. I just thought I'd pass it on.

As some ride yr. round and some start riding,.....take care and watch out for the other guy. .... and expect the unexpected.

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph.
The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The rider's reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident.

The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them.
The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department..

Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners and especially everyone you know who has a MOBILE phone!!!
A picture is worth a thousand words.

Save a life. Stop talking on mobile phones and Texting while trying to drive.
The life you save may be your own..... Or mine...

Keep passing this on so everyone will see what can happen by using a mobile PHONE while driving

This was a double no no a motorcycle rider riding too fast for the area he was in and the one on the cell phone not paying attention

Both at fault for sure, but isn't this story a few years old?

Anyway a lesson can be learned from it.

You're right. Always verify a mass e-mail before posting.

Actually, there's no proof that a cell phone was involved.

Yes, it's several years old and happened in Sweden. Bike's estimated speed was 155 mph at impact. Here's a link to a power point about the incident. http://www.slideshare.net/lisadydx/m...ntation-972032

A thousand pardons,...I had no idea it had been posted before. If I have seen it, my memory fails me. As you stated Gerry, a lesson can be learned. The fact that it is an old post wouldn't take the severity or meaning away from the example of what could/can/ and does happen, ..... at least for me.
But I posted it as a good reminder as I read that members are taking the covers off their rides and starting a somewhat early season of motorcycle riding. Ride safe everyone.

Actually the more I look at that pic the more I question as to its authenticity, The bike looks like a racing bike more than a street bike, and if the rider had ended up inside the car I'm sure they would have had to cut the car apart to remove the victims. Also I think the rider would have gone over the car rather than into it. Something seems fishy about it and I wouldn't be surprised if its a photoshopped pic.

Steve if you look at the link TXcop posted to the other photos, you will see a couple of things. First, the rocker panel has been cut in 2 probably by the jaws of life and both front doors are missing. No way the bike cut the rocker panel in 2 on a unit body construction car the way you see it and if the bike hit the passenger side and went that far into the car, then the passenger door would have preceded it. My guess is maybe it was a nasty car / bike accident and where the bike and rider actually ended up we will never know. It would seem to me that after they cut the doors off etc to retrieve the bodies, they shoved the bike back in for the display. Also just as possible that the car never got hit by a bike, just rolled and hit a post or tree on the passenger side and the bike was shoved in there to make the display.

Well it still is something to think about when we get our bikes out for the season.
People haven't had us on the road, and aren't used to us yet.
Thanks to Rickyboy for starting this conversation!

I'm always watching for people on cell phones. Its illegal here to have a handheld phone while driving, but It doesn't stop too many people from still using them.

I think that every year. New and "seasoned" car drivers are out of practice of seeing motorcycles and their riders. That, and the fact the riders are all pumped to be on the road again.

Same here in BC Steve. The drivers can still be on the phone hands free!! Which means they are still distracted but they have two hands to try and steer their way out of situations. What gets me is when I see RCM Police driving and operating their onboard computers. I even see them on their cell phones at times. WTF !!

ya so........stay safe everyone.
