Some were thinking that Barak would conduct his "swearing in" on a Koran as opposed to a Bible. I believe that would have been political suicide before he even began.

The use of the Lincoln Bible was a little unusual in that many actually use the Washington Bible for their inauguration. I think that this was the first time the Lincoln Bible had been used since the 1800's ( http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16813.html ).

Would Barack Obama been elected if he professed to be Muslim? Hindu? Agnostic? No way! What happen to the Constitutional premise of church and state separation?

Rumors such as the swearing in using the Quran serve only to raise the ire of ultra-conservatives to justify their unfounded fear of Obama yet have the unintended (or perhaps intended) consequences of tearing down that sacred barrier that protects not only our religious entities from government intrusion but the very fabric of our democracy from religious influence.
