Run-Turn-Brake Kit

Well....even though it was only about 20 degrees in my garage, I went out and installed the Kuryakyn Triple Whammy Run-Turn-Brake kit I recently purchased. I was kind of dreading taking off my Mustang seat as it is kind of a PIA to get the bolts back in....but I went for it anyway.

The R-T-B kit went in real easy...the hardest part was trying to get the unit and wiring plugs to lay somewhat flat...but I finally decided to loosen the bracket that goes across the battery and shoved some of it under there. That worked great and the bracket helped hold it down.

The directions say to replace your turn signal lenses first...but I wanted to make sure the thing worked, so I did those last. After replacing them....I'm undecided if I like the deep dish bezel lens covers....or would just rather have red colored OEM lenses that better match the front turn signal lights.

Gadget's page had a blurb that said you could just paint the inside of your amber OEM lenses with transparent red paint and the lights would appear red when lighted, but amber when not. Has anyone here done that? If so....did the lights remain bright enough or did you have to get LED lights?

I looked around a bit online to see if anyone had any red OEM replacement lenses....but I couldn't really find any in the brief period I searched.

Anyways....I really like the idea of having three running lights and brake lights back there, so that much is all good....but I'm really undecided as to which way to go on the lenses themselves... :-/. Any thoughts....???

You won't find red lenses, but I did buy some clear ones and paint the inside red like mentioned on Gadgets page. worked great too. They're listed at this link:

Hope this helps.

I put mine on last week... took a bunch of pictures, but haven't put them on line yet. What do you think about the blink rate? It's a little fast, but I guess not so fast I need the load balancer (was that the right name?). I noticed the rate changed a bit when I was also braking.

Anyway, I like it, and the lenses don't bother me too much. Besides, I don't see it when I ride. :-)

I think it's called a load equalizer. Did you not use that? I think you were supposed to....

I thought the directions meant that you only need it if you have other than stock type of blinkers. I'll give it a try next time I open up the seat. (got an Alaskan sheepskin seat to try out) Getting pretty crowded in there...

Got the triple whammy last June and love it.
I also got the new lens and bezel for the front signals so everything matches. It did kinda looked funny with just the back ones, but now it looks way cool with the bezel in front also.

I have red lenses on the back of my bike. They where on the bike when I bought it, I think Ive seen them available on Ebay a couple years ago. Unless of course they are discontinued now.

Timebandit... Where'd you get the new lens/bezel for the front? I was thinking of doing the same thing!

When you install the load equalizer, I would suggest that you "tie strap" it somewhere where the heat it generates, won't affect anything. I tie-strapped mine on the inside of the down tube of the frame, behind the right side cover. Under normal use, it won't get hot enough to damage anything, but if ,for some reason, you have to sit a while with the blinker on (like at a RR crossing) it will get pretty warm.
Kris, like Ridemslow said, you won't find any red lenses (I looked for a long time). I went with clear lenses and red LEDs. I also wired my trunk tail lights to it (the trunk tail lights function exactly as the OEM turn lights), and have 5 rear brake lights, and/or 2 turn lights. Also have the clear lenses with red LEDs on the trunk.
The Run-Turn-Brake controller is a great addition to visibility in the rear, and I have mine set to where it blinks 4 times before staying on steady when you use the brakes. It does get the attention of the driver behind you.

Another way to change the color of the lens is to get a roll of that red tail light repair tape and cut a piece to fit inside the amber lens. You have to do a careful job of cutting it or the edges will appear ragged. When I installed my tri-whamy in my Nomad I used the red lenses and bezels but went the red tape route on another bike with a different run-light kit that didn't provide lens and I think it looks okay, but then again, its my beater bike.

Ordered my kit from Cruiser Customizing nearly 2 weeks ago. Just received the "Ready to Ship" status Friday. Will probably come in after Christmas.

Run-Turn-Brake Kit

Just an FYI in case anyone else is thinking of getting it. I got it (the 4606, for the Vulcan 1600 line) at http://www.easternperformance.com/ Came for about $87, and that included shipping. They don't stock it, but I had it in a week. (had to call it in).

I did the same as VulcanE and went with the clear lens and red LED's. Super bright!! I also used the load equalizer. Had to to get the proper "blink speed".
