2008 1600 wont stay running

Hi Guys.. been a few years since I've been active on here. a wedding, 2 moves and a pile of honey do lists checked off and hopefully I'm back here for awhile! My 1600 batt was shot at the end of last season. i was able to jump it using a portable battery pack. I ran it to my storage unit where she sat over the winter. just went to start it (jump it) to get it back home to replace the battery and it starts and idles just fine, but as soon as I disconnect the portable battery pack the bike dies immediately. I know the batt is toast, new one should be here tomorrow. do these bikes produce enough juice at idle to run without the battery? could my dead batt be draining juice faster than it can be made? I'm just hoping I don't have a bigger problem somewhere..

thanks

tony

The bike will produce more juice than it needs to run. However with lights on at an idle a battery is needed. But I would not run the bike anymore until I got the new battery in there. The bike needs a battery, and running the bike on one that doesn't have any juice or is shorted is asking for trouble.

You need a good battery for it to run properly.
Ive had them cranking over but not enough juice to fire the coils.

QUIT DOING THAT RIGHT NOW!

You go get a 55 gallon barrel and shoot it 10 times with 00 Buck, and set it up 20 feet from the outdoor spigot and with a 5 gallon pail you fill that barrel fast....

if you are trying to fry the charging system you sure can't do it in any better way..

That dead battery is a barrel with no bottom in it and you are pouring in heat and power that has no place to be held.

Get a good battery and get it charged up good and install it where the bike IS.

Pray you didn't roast the stators! Both of them and the rec regs both of them too!

BTW I still have the same great battery my 06 came with..... it's doing just great still.

I am sorry for being an ass but there are just times i can't help myself.
