Another Cam Chain Extenders Question

Ok so I have an Oil leak on the right side of the bike (1999 Nomad) the spray of Oil is from rear of engine to seat then all the way back to the saddle bag, I do have 32 thousand miles on her and she has been running great all year till this, so my Question is could the Cam Chain Extenders cause this leak and could I have more damage then I can see at this time, there was no Odd noise coming from the engine when this happened, I did remove the tensioner cap and alot of oil came out but I need to remove the pipes in order to get a better look at the extender rod, thanks for any help you all will provide me with..

Another Cam Chain Extenders Question

Only thing I can suggest is to clean the mess up then let the engine idle or take it for a slow ride for a few minutes. Then use a good flashlight to check the valve covers, cam plugs, and the rear cam chain tensioner assembly for oil leakage. Also check the spark plug tunnels for oil. If it is coming from one of the spark plug tunnels, the slack in the timing chain has already cut a hole through it. You've already pulled the cap off of the rear assembly. If the end of the push rod was recessed inside of the assembly more than 1/4" - 3/8" you need to install the extenders. At 32K miles it needs to be done if it hasn't been taken care of already. Narrow down the source of the leak and then one of us can advise you on what plan of action you need to take. The wind blowing the oil everywhere on the engine will make it difficult to find until it is cleaned up good enough to find the source.

Another Cam Chain Extenders Question

If you had cut through the tunnel oil would be pouring down the side of the engine.

Something else to check is the starter, I had a similar deal and couldn't pinpoint the leak. I replaced the clutch cover basket thinking that was it.

It ended up being the o ring on the end of the starter.

Locate the source, then worry about extenders. It's likely something else.

Another Cam Chain Extenders Question

Check the cam plug. It's is above the tensioner on the side. It will leak and run down by the tensioner and blow back on the right side.
