Doing the math

Ok so out of curiousity I added it all up.

Bush's stimulus plan = $152 billion
Obama stimulus plan = $825 billion

Total-------------------- = $977 billion

US Population age 18+ = 217.8 million 2003 number
US Population total for 2008 (estimate from census bureau) = 304 million

amount of money each person COULD have received if they would have given it to the people that need it.......

$4481.65 at the 2003 population number

$3213.82 at the 2008 estimated population

Now keep in mind that if it was only given to people who filed tax returns that dollar amount would be alot higher because there are alot of people that don't file and the 2008 number is counting people that are underage who do not file.
So we could have had somewhere in the neighborhood of $5000 EACH.

Man I could put that to some good use. I bet that would stimulate the econonmy.

The problem is the Government does not have the money we and our children's children and so on will be paying for this spending. Cutting taxes is the only way where going to get out of this problem.

Sarge, I'm not disagreeing with you, but I have another "absolute must do" to help get out of the problem, and that is by controlling spending. Maybe we could get congress on a 12 step program. . . .

I know for certain I could not run my household the way the country is/has been run. If your money supply is sharply curtailed, you dont write gigantic checks, and you make sure you can account for every penny. You quit spending on anything but the essentials. I saw a hell of a lot more than essential spending in the bail out, unless you count pork as a required expenditure.

C'mon, congress will never cut tax money going to people that vote for them.!! Liberals want poor people and minorities to ALWAYS need them!!! They've kept them dependent and aren't about to stop because they have no EXIT STRATEGY!!!!

Off thread to Sarge.....your pic of the two of you with your heads close together with helmets on reminds me of some old black and white pics me and my hubbie took in one of those mall booths with our helmets on years ago. I run across those pics once in a while and they still make me laugh. You could tell we were having a blast. Ya'll look very happy in your pic. ;)

Okay back th thread............I'll take a $4000/5000 check...and go buy some pork...hehe.

OP:

The government believes Americans are too stupid to know what to do with their money (taxes); so the "gov" is going to manage it for "us" since "they" believe "they" have been so good at managing money.

I have heard similar math mentioned before. And I agree with your calculations. How bout we add into the money given to bail out of the banks. If they had given the bank bailout money to the citizens of this country (and I'm against just about any bailout). All of it could have been invested back into the economic system. One of the radio hosts mentioned it would have been something like 20,000 for every tax paying legal citizen. - I'm pretty sure the banks would have profited from that much money being injected in the system. And the car makers. Unfortunately, we have just sold capitalism down the river. We are no longer a free market society.

Meanwhile.......I'm thinking about painting my bike with my stimulus check! :) :) ;)

You might be better off to just get it all in ones and paste them to the bike then clear coat over them. It would be more valuable and probably a safe savings program at the same time. Would be safer than putting in the hands of the bank. My tax return and rebate are direct deposited and then by be direct transferred to my local credit union. I am rapidly losing faith in wells fargo.

Hang in there with your bank OP. WFC and other strong banks such as WFC are not going "down" as you may think... the "gov" will make sure of that. If WFC and BAC go "down"; then load your gun; collect the children; bury your food; and be prepared for anarchy.

But; realistically; the odds of that are slim.
