Found this on display in Barcelona

Found this doing the "Barcelona stroll" yesterday.
A nice orig. 1948 "cert. Police Special" .....I think "shovel head". You HD guys might be able to clarify for me.

A '48 would have been a panhead. Shovelheads weren't made until '66.

Ricky...Barcelona?..Really..I mean Really..just wrong pal..I'm shovelling out 25cm of freshly dumped snow and your off in Spain sight seeing and you don't even know what your looking at!!! Its a 1948 45 Flathead (750cc).

From what I can see it "looks" like a flathead. They were used up thru 48' (according to
Wikipedia). The panhead was introduced in 48' also.

It looks like a 1st yr. panhead. A friend had one that looked like that. Same color even. He bought it new in 48 when he was in high school. He rode it till 2003 when he rode it to the Harley 100 yr celebration and donated it to the Harley museum. There is a picture of it in a book about the museum.
