Hello All,
I'm seeking some advice. I purchased a 1999 Nomad in New Yourk and need to get it down to Georgia. I am trying to decide whether to fly up and ride it down (1 day to fly, 3 to ride back) or have it shipped. I have weighed the pros and cons of either and haven't come up with anything to push me one way versus the other. Any advice, tips, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks ???

If you've got the time and feel like taking a long ride, I'd fly up and ride it home. The one way plane ticket and 2 nights in a motel would probably be a little cheaper than shipping it, I suppose? And then all of the fun in that long ride.

Id fly to NY as well and ride it home, I could do that trip in two days easily.

The thrill of that ride would cause me to have to fly although since leaving the military I have vowed to never fly again. The hassles of shipping and worrying if the bike would be all right would get on my nerves. So with that said I would fly up and ride it home.

I had a Drifter shipped from Cal. to NY with no worries at all. JC Motors shipped it door to door. It cost $740.
If you think the Nomad is in good ridable condition and have the time it would be a great memory to fly up and ride it back.

Do you know if the plastic oil gear has been replaced?
Personally, I'd ride it. No question about it.

Thanks for all the replies. The oil gear was replaced while in warranty. I have decided to drive up with a trailer and bring it back. That way I'll ride it down here without the worry of getting stranded in PA. I really appreciate the encouragement though.

Nomads were meant to be ridden, not towed.

Don't pay those diehards too much attention. Quite a few of us tow our Nomads when we don't want to spend hours on the super-slab. Heck, I tow mine to the north side of metro Atlanta when I want to ride in the north Georgia mountains. I hate riding through Atlanta!

Don't worry, that'll be the only time it'll be towed unless it's unable to move under it's own power. I currently have a Yamaha Vstar650 Classic which I've ridden to Cincinnati and back (1200 miles round trip) which was very educational. I just didn't feel comfortable doing this one since I'd never ridden a Nomad before and the time constraints I'm under. Being a pilot, I've learned to avoid traveling with get-there-itis. That's never a pleasurable trip.

I flew and rode back when I purchased my Nomad. Only 750 miles and spent 13 hours in the saddle. Was one of the most memorable weekends. I would do it again in a second! Probably would have made other arrangements if the miles were over 1000.
Make sure you keep your eyes on the road in front of you. Not in the mirrors admiring the new ride!

vf24renegade... you're gonna have to fly back to NY and get your truck and trailer once you see the Nomad. It'll be hard to resist the ride back home.
