Local 13 Year Old Dies In Traffic Accident
I went to college with Betty Williams and her husband Ted. Ted was a pharmacist until his health got so bad he could no longer work. He was a diabetic and had his legs amputated a few years back. Betty and her two grandsons went to the Auburn - Louisiana Monroe football game at Auburn, Alabama. They were returning home after the game. Today would have been Payton's 14th birthday. The wreck happened yesterday afternoon. The following article is from television station WHNT in Huntsville, Alabama.
(HUNTSVILLE, AL--) A day of enjoying football down in Auburn turned into a day of tragedy for a Boaz family as a one car wreck takes the life of a boy that was just getting started. State troopers say around 2:35 pm, 63 year old Betty Williams of Boaz was traveling west on Highway 280 just outside Auburn when her 2005 Ford Focus left the roadway for an unknown reason. Investigators on the scene say Williams over-corrected, lost control and her car overturned in the median. As the car rolled, troopers say her 13 year old grandson, Payton Williams was ejected from the rear seat. The 13 year old was pronounced dead on the scene. Betty Williams and another passenger,13 year old Wesley Burns, were transported to East Alabama Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Investigators say the injured passengers were both wearing their seat belts--tragically, 13 year old Payton Williams was not. No word on what caused the Boaz grandmother to loose control.
