Finger-nail painting while driving...

A female motorcyclist was killed this past weekend in the Chicago area by a female driver of a car.

Evidently the driver of the car rear ended the cyclist while stopped at a stop light.

The driver of the car has been arrested and is being charged with involuntary manslaughter -- especially since witnesses said the driver was painting her finger-nails while driving and didn't see the stop light or motorcyclist.

To all... keep your eyes open and awareness 360 degrees around you at all times... and always have an exit strategy and your bike in gear.

Ride safe!!

You really have to be careful out there, I was once stopped at the lights, and a car was coming up behind me too fast also. I was lucky I had a much smaller bike than now and jumped it up on the sidewalk at the last second. the car screetched to a stop about two feet behind the car that was in front of me at the time. It was an elderly chinese couple, he was whiteknuckled and she had eyes bugging out of her head and holding on to the dashboard.
That was just luck that I was looking in the mirrors at the right time.

Good idea to be situated all the way to the right or left of a vehicle in front of you at an intersection or traffic light with at least a bike length of space cushion for quick getaways. I find myself not watching the mirrors at times like this. Getting habit strength doing so.
