Brought home the Heritage Softail Classic

Here's the Heritage, I brought home the other day:

Before you guys get mad at me... no, I don't own this bike, it is the bike they loaned me when they took my Nomad for trade-in inspection. The only time window open for the inspection was in the morning hours so the salesman offered this bike for 24 hours. I dropped off my Nomad after work and rode the Heritage that afternoon then rode it to work next day, etc.

The bike was equipped with the 103 ci engine and it breathed like crazy. I remember my Nomad was similar in the first 1000 km or so but the 103's breathing was more pronounced.

The Heritage is a fine bike. The seat is low, the bars are high and the bags look very nice. It comes with 6-speed transmission but it felt different from my Electra, I think the gear ratios are different.

The Heritage is not a touring bike but it could pull it off nicely for weekend get-a-ways.

My partner has one and likes his. I like it because they are low and comfortable.

Touring long distances... it wouldn't be my choice, but plenty of people do on these things... including my partner.

It is a great bike for shorter people and women especially seem to like them because of the low profile.

(As a note... my Classic has been lowered front and back and has a reach-seat on it -- otherwise I would have to had bought a Heritage.) (No one needs to add the "short-jokes"; they have all been said before.)

It's a softail, not a touring bike. Not quite as comfortable over the long haul as a *glide. I know a couple of guys who ride Heritage Classics and they like them, but they are day ride guys and don't tour like I do.

The name "Softail" is not exactly an accurate name... just ask anyone that rode as a passenger on one of these things!

That and the Road King are both fine bikes IMHO. Still prefer my Nomad

As far as looks, I personally think the Heritage Classic is the finest looking bike on the market in its class. If I had about twice the disposable income I have now, you're damn right I'd own one. But bang for the buck, I sure love my Vaquero.
