Occasional oil leak
For about the past month or so, I've noticed a bit of oil on the floor under the left side of the bike, towards the rear of the engine. The thing that puzzles me is that it is not consistently leaking. Road about 25 miles, got off and found a bit of oil. Jumped back on and road a little over 100 miles and after I got home, I checked underneath and noticed blown oil towards the rear of the engine. After the bike set for about 5 minutes or so, I was going to check the oil. I started removing the filler cap (dipstick) and noticed that the oil was under a lot of pressure. It started to "spray" as I loosened the cap so I screwed it back down. I will check it in an hour or so. Never had the happen before so I am kind of lost for a cause.
Anyone else have a leak on or towards the rear of the engine that you pinpointed?

Not sure if the 1700's have a case breather with filter or if the breather hose vents into the intake as the 1600's do. Either way, your vent hose may be kinked resulting in excessive crankcase pressure. That would explain pressure beneath the fill plug. This would cause oil to leak from gaskets.

Like Cajunrider said, the Crank case should not be pressurized, You either have a blockage in the crankcase vent tube, or it is kinked. Building pressure in the crankcase will cause oil to blow a gasket, or seal. I would check this out real quick.

Bingo! Thanks for the info! I checked the breather hose and found it to be kinked. Will do a test ride in a while to see if it stops leaking.

That's good to hear OC. Unless excessive crankcase pressure has blown a gasket, your leaks should stop.
