Temp Light Comes On 99 Nomad

Hello....I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. I have a 99 Nomad (Judges Oil Gear Installed) and when I started it up this year and revved the engine a little the Temp light came on. When I let it back to idle the light goes off. There is plenty of coolant that was just flushed and changed last year. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Steve

If the temperature light comes on before the engine is up to temperature, I'd suspect something has gone wrong in the temp sensor circuit.

That would be my suspicion as well. Also check the wire that goes onto the heat switch to make sure its a clean solid connection.

at the core of many of those circuits is a thermister or thermal resistor. Heat causes the resistance to increase and those changes cause the temp meter readout to increase.

In our case it is a dumber circuit and so it's more like a thermal switch. Normal and then above a certain temp infinet resistance and the light circuit is the alt route for current and presto! the light is on!

Look for a open condition or loose conection or coroded (high resistance) conection.

Thanks Everyone...I'm not really sure about the resistors, but I will tank the tank off and carefully follow the wires to see what I come up with...Ive had that tank off more times than I ever wished. I probably could do it blindfolded.

Thanks Again
Steve

Does sound like a faulty connection. I was thinking corrosion in the radiator but since you flushed that should rule that out.

Before you take the tank off start with the switches at the bottom of the radiator. Clean the contacts and make sure they are tight. Easy to get at and may save you a lot of hassle. One is the fan switch and the other is the temp light.

I would start with what minst recomended, you may not need to remove the tank this time.
