Grasshopper Backrest

Is anyone using the Grasshopper backrest set up for solo use? I was told that this set up tends to dent the fender where it mounts, anyone able to confirm or deny this?

Thanks

I would think it mounts the same with or without the pillion seat. I'm not really sure on this but it seems it would have to mount the same way. So if it were going to dent the fender it seems it would also do it with the pillion seat installed.

From what they say it mounts differently, that's why I was asking. But my thoughts were right in line with yours.

I had one for a couple of years, set up solo on it a few times. Never a problem. It mounts to the small bolt that holds your seat on. I never had a problem with the fender denting when set up for solo riding. 6'6" and 250. YMMV though.. ;)

I have a grasshopper backrest and have set my bike up solo a few times and never an issue denting the fender, just don't strip the threads in the fender

I rather suspect that with the pillion seat installed, it restrains the metal post from being pushed back too much. Without the restraint, it very well could cause the bracket to be pushed back and thus cause some indentation in the rear fender. However, this is purely a guess backed up by no experience.
