Trip to Nationals

I know it is early but wanted to post this so we could start making plans, so maybe we could get some group riding lined out.

I will be leaving on Monday the 13th and returning on Friday the 17th there are several different ways I can go from here so let me know what you are thinking.

Tentative plans are for Darlene and I to leave on the 12th and meet CJ in Hattiesburg that afternoon. Leave from Hattiesburg on the morning of the 13th and ride up to Maggie Valley.

We will be taking a more northern approach. If I can work it out, we may come over into West Virginia and head down the Blue Ridge Parkway into North Carolina. Then come back home accross Tennessee.

We were thinking of leaving on the 12th and staying overnight in Birmingham. Then finish the trip on the 13th. It will be (as of right now) three of us, Myself and two non-members.

We will leave the house on the 12th.
Memphis and West Helena are the only two places to get across the river that aren't way out of the way.
Thought we would cross at Memphis on the way out and then travel thru southern Tenn.
Will probably come home thru Ala. and Miss.

Here is the route Mapquest says I should take. I have been that way but not on a bike. It would be a beautiful ride though.

2. Turn RIGHT onto BUTLER AVE. 0.5 mi

3. Turn RIGHT onto US-431 S/AL-1 S. 1.2 mi

5. Turn LEFT to stay on AL-168. 0.4 mi

6. Turn RIGHT onto AL-68. 14.1 mi

7. Merge onto I-59 N via the ramp on the LEFT toward CHATTANOOGA (Crossing into GEORGIA). 55.5 mi

8. Merge onto I-24 E toward CHATTANOOGA (Crossing into TENNESSEE). 17.4 mi

9. Merge onto I-75 N via EXIT 185B on the LEFT toward KNOXVILLE. 19.2 mi

10. Take EXIT 20 toward US-64-BYP E/CLEVELAND. 0.2 mi

11. Merge onto US-74 E/APD 40 toward US-11/US-64-BYP/CLEVELAND/CHEROKEE NATIONAL FOREST. 6.4 mi

12. Take the US-64 E ramp toward OCOEE. 0.4 mi

13. Merge onto US-74 E (Crossing into NORTH CAROLINA). 110.8 mi

14. Merge onto US-441 N via EXIT 74 toward GREAT SMOKY MTS NATIONAL PARK/CHEROKEE/SPEEDWAY. 4.1 mi

15. Turn RIGHT onto US-441-BR/SOCO RD. Continue to follow US-441-BR. 0.8 mi

16. Turn RIGHT onto US-19/PAINT TOWN RD. Continue to follow US-19. 15.2 mi Map | Avoid

17. Welcome to MAGGIE VALLEY, NC.

As of now Gina and I are planning to attend. It is still a long way off but sounds like fun (as always). I don't know which route yet but would like to join and ride in with others.

Dave instead of going through Memphis why not go through Helena Highway 49 out of Helena becomes 315 in Mississippi and that is the rode I live on you could spend the night here and leave with us on the 13th.
Jesse that goes for you also but I only have one extra bed room but we do have a motel in town.

I will leave here on the 13th take highway 4/18 to highway to 64 and follow it across the bottom of Tennessee I have made this trip many times when my sister lived in Lenoir City just South of Knoxville. This is a nice ride so if anyone wants to join in you are more than welcome. Oh if you are coming here on the 12th let me know and I will cook up a big pot of road kill.

That sounds like a good idea to me Jim.
About how far do you think it is from your house to Maggie Valley?
When you get some time let me know what route you would take.
Not that it matters, I'd just like to know.
I'll be looking forward to some road kill.

I plan on attending, but I'll be trailering up there and will have Kathy with me. That way, she can use the SUV to shop up there while I'm riding.

Kathy and I will leave on Sunday, the 12th. Tentative plans are to take I-30 through Little Rock then I-40 to Memphis and stay the night near Nashville. Then she and I will get into Maggie Vally Monday afternoon.

We plan on leaving Friday, the 17th, stay the night somewhere and arrive home on Saturday the 18th.

A small group of us will be taking pretty much the same route. We will be leaving on Sunday (12th) and staying overnight in Birmingham. We plan to arrive in Maggie Valley Monday (13th) afternoon. If you are interested, we can meet up somewhere along the way.
