Government Transparency? (political)

I just watched the film about the Transparent VW factory. Reminded me of this quote.

"We might hope to see the finances of the Union as clear and intelligible as a merchant`s books, so that every member of Congress and every man of any mind in the Union should be able to comprehend them to investigate abuses, and consequently to control them."
- President Jefferson to Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin, April 1, 1802.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to look at the books and know how to read them. It might have kept all those greedy fingers out of the pot over these many years.

It would take a year to get through it if you understood it. The truth is, politicians don't even know what is in it. Most laws and other things that are voted on aren't written by the politicians themselves. We've falled a long way since Jefferson and Madison.

Proof of that comes directly from the quote of Pelosi: "We need to pass this bill (Obamacare) so you can see what's in it".

These politicians have no clue what half the bills contain. They only find out later when the unintended consequences start to occur; them it takes then years to correct it... because they have already moved-on to other self-interests.
