I hear ya buckey, leather isn't my style either. I have a joe rocket mesh jacket with armor that I can wear up to 35deg celcius before it starts to get warm. Plenty comfortable and the armor gives me peace of mind. I've always just worn everyday jeans, but might have to look into these kevlar ones that you're asking about.
