Today's ride

My friend and I started out heading E of the Phoenix area on US60 and stopped in Goldfield at a little bar/grill called "The Garage" for lunch. Then we saddled back up and continued E for several more miles, then exited US60 onto AZ79 heading south to the town of Florence (notable for its many correctional facilities; federal, state and ICE). It's 17 miles from the junction of US60/AZ79 to the town. Going the opposite direction were literally hundreds of motorcycles. Granted, it was a nice day to ride, but I have never seen this many motorcycles. The bikes outnumbered cars and trucks 10 to 1. Coming into town from the north, the first thing you approach are the prison complexes, and the place was crawling with law enforcement people - corrections, sheriff's deputies and state cops.

The entrances to most of the prison complexes were barricaded and cars going in the few open entrances were being searched. Further down the road, approaching the center of town, the highway was blocked by law enforcement and traffic was being diverted through a residential area. There were locals sitting in front of their houses, watching all the bikes go by. I got stuck behind a car at a stop sign and asked one of the onlookers what was going on. He said it was the "prison run", where the various MC's ride by the prisons to show their support for their brethren who are doing time. I've never seen it before and though it was quite interesting.

It's also interesting to note that the electronic temperature sign in the town said it was 81 beautiful degrees. This is as warm as it's been since sometime around mid-November. (Sorry, just had to rub it in a little).

Go to http://www.wunderground.com
Enter the Zipcode or name of the city you want the weather for. After it loads the page, scroll down near the bottom of the page, left of center, and there will be a box that says "display the weather on your web page" or something like that. Click on the link, and there are numerous different weather bars you can add to your signature. When you find the one you want, click on it, and it will give you the html code to add to your signature. You want the line that ends with ".gif" Cut and paste it into your signature, and add "" after the code (without the quotes).

It was a great day for riding in East Texas. I rode all afternoon and at the end of the day I even ran into Trip at a local BBQ resturant.

Holy smoke, at least no body I ride with is in jail. I bet there were some rough dudes on those bikes.

As to local temps, it hit 45 degrees here today, first time in the 40s since early November. Come on Spring!

Yeah, there were some scary looking guys on some pretty serious bikes. There are 6 HA chapters in AZ and most of the other infamous clubs are represented here as well. Saw a lot of choppers out there today. I think almost everybody who owns a bike was out riding it today.

Grumble Snow Grumble Ice Grumble Mud You just had to rub it in didn't you.

Haven't seen my entire driveway clear since late November. One of these days it will dry out. Us northerner's will be posting about our nice weather when you are in the oven as revenge.

We also have had amazing weather here in Arkansas... It was so beautiful yesterday (mid 70's... sun shining), we took off on the bikes yesterday with no itinerary at all... As we stopped at various stop signs, we would decide which way to go next, and it turned into a wonderful day. Stress? What stress when you can ride it all away....

Yesterday I jumped in the plow truck at 12 degrees with 35 mile an hour winds in a whiteout and made 4 laps of the driveway!
