Antlers weather
Since I have declared my intention to attend the Antlers rally, I am looking for information about the weather in the region during the first week of October so I can get an idea of what I need to bring as far as gear goes.
I know what AZ/NM weather will be like, but it's unknown to me what I might expect in Texas and Oklahoma. On the way to Antlers, I will be following I-20, through Abilene, and around the DFW area to Paris TX, then North to Antlers. On the return trip I will leave Antlers and head to Oklahoma City, then take I-40 to Amarillo. From Amarillo, I'll grab US-60 W, which will take me all the way back to Mesa. Will it be leather jacket weather that time of year? Leather chaps? (My definition of leather jacket weather is 80 degrees or below). Of course I'll have rain gear with me, as I do on any cross-country trek. So, you folks that live in this area, please help a brother out. :D |

At least I'm going to the rally. You just sit home, press your clothes and be a good little homemaker. :D

I bet you laughed for half an hour!

Generally that time of year in SE Oklahoma you will see lows around 60 and highs in the lower 80's.
But you could see 40's and rain or like last year high's around 100. |
The two yrs that I have been going AM temps have been cool - down in the low 50s - and the days warm - into the 80s. Last year on our last ride we hit 100+ in late afternoon. I will be carrying my cool vest.

Scott, It's not easy to predict. Bring a leather jacket just in case along with a cool vest if you have one. We nearly froze one morning 3 or 4 years ago heading up to a car show at Robber's Cave. Had to have been in the 40's that morning. Last year it was blistering hot in the afternoons. Just hard to say.

The first part of October can vary. The last couple of years it's been pretty warm. Normally, it's just about right... upper 70's, low 80's for highs. But, like Bill said, it was rather hot last year. The way things are looking this year, I'm guessing it's going to be pretty warm also. I'm about 2.5 hrs North of Antlers, but I wouldn't think the weather is going to be that much different between me and there.
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be there this year, or any year until you guys change the dates. October 7th is my wedding anniversary and I don't see the missus letting me off for that weekend. :) |
All I can tell you is last year it was hot and 3 years ago I almost froze, but the food is great the company is better and even though I have seen a lot of the area around Antlers I still enjoy the rides every year. And of course breakfast at the Shell station :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

When I read cactusjack's question, I thought, we see it all that time of year. I remember 40's and also remember hot and humid. Never know.
I'd trailer. :D |
